Wyvern Academy, welcomed local MP Lola McEvoy last week for a special celebration of sustainability, renewable energy and community engagement.
The visit marked an exciting milestone following the installation of new solar panels at the academy as part of the Solar for Schools project, helping the school generate clean, renewable energy while providing valuable learning opportunities for students.
The event also brought together pupils from Wyvern Academy's feeder primary schools, St Mary's Primary School and Mount Pleasant Primary School, for an inspiring day focused on science, sustainability and the future of green energy.

Throughout the day, primary pupils worked alongside Wyvern Academy students, who took on the role of Science Ambassadors, sharing their knowledge about renewable energy and demonstrating the importance of protecting the environment. The initiative was designed not only to develop scientific understanding but also to strengthen relationships between local schools and the wider community.
Principal Ms Nadia Robinson said:
"We are incredibly proud to be part of the Solar for Schools project, which allows our students to see sustainability in action while learning about the importance of renewable energy. Events like this are about much more than science - they're about building relationships with our local community, inspiring young people and giving our students the confidence to become ambassadors for positive change. It was a pleasure to welcome Lola McEvoy to Wyvern Academy and share the fantastic work our students are doing."
During her visit, Lola McEvoy spoke to students about the importance of education, community and creating opportunities for young people to shape a more sustainable future. She then met with students from both Wyvern Academy and its feeder primary schools, answering their questions before taking a tour of the academy to see the new solar panel installation and hear more about the impact of the project.
A special thank you goes to Solar for Schools for delivering such an engaging and interactive workshop, helping pupils explore renewable energy, understand how solar power works and inspiring the next generation of environmentally conscious young people.
The event was a fitting celebration of collaboration, community and a shared commitment to building a greener future—one that left pupils inspired and empowered to make a positive difference.
