  • Heworth Grange Students Complete Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expeditions

Students from Heworth Grange School have successfully completed their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award practice expeditions, taking part in challenging routes across the Northumberland coast and surrounding countryside.

The expeditions provided students with the opportunity to develop a wide range of practical and personal skills in an outdoor environment, including navigation, camp craft, teamwork and resilience. Working in small groups, students planned and completed their routes independently, building confidence and problem-solving skills throughout the experience.

Despite warm and challenging weather conditions, students showed impressive determination and commitment. They successfully followed their planned routes, worked together to set up camp, and prepared meals using expedition stoves, demonstrating growing independence and practical competence in outdoor settings.

Staff praised the students for their perseverance, positive attitudes and teamwork across both expeditions. The experience was described as a valuable opportunity for personal development, with students gaining not only essential expedition skills but also confidence, resilience and a strong sense of achievement.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award continues to provide young people with life-changing opportunities to challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones, and develop skills that will support them well beyond school.
