  • Moorside High School Strengthens Student Wellbeing with Enhanced Emotional Literacy Support Provision

Moorside High School, is enhancing its commitment to inclusion and student wellbeing through the introduction of Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) provision, led by newly qualified practitioner, Teaching Assistant Stephen Northridge.

Recognising the vital link between emotional wellbeing and learning, the school is embedding targeted support to help students better understand and manage their emotions, supporting engagement, relationships and academic success.

Stephen will deliver structured one-to-one and small group interventions, particularly supporting students with SEND and those facing barriers to learning. The provision focuses on developing key skills such as emotional awareness, resilience and self-regulation.

Sessions will run on a termly cycle with clear targets and monitoring, ensuring measurable impact on wellbeing, behaviour and outcomes. Stephen will work closely with staff, pastoral teams and families to provide a joined-up approach.

    Helen Ryles-Dean, Principal, said:
“We are delighted to be able to offer ELSA support at Moorside High School. Interventions like this play a vital role in supporting students’ wellbeing and will have a very positive impact on their confidence, engagement and readiness to learn.”

This initiative reflects the school’s continued investment in both student support and staff development, strengthening its inclusive environment to helping every student thrive.

We would like to congratulate Stephen on his qualification and thank him for his continued commitment to

supporting student wellbeing at Moorside High School.
