  • Heworth Grange Students Step Behind the Camera in Industry-Standard Film Masterclass

Students from Heworth Grange School, part of Consilium Academies, recently took part in an exciting and immersive Stage and Screen Masterclass at Northern School of Art, giving them valuable hands-on experience in film production.

The Year 10 Film Studies class spent the day developing their creative and technical skills, working collaboratively to write, produce and direct their own short film. Using professional sound and camera equipment, students were able to gain a real insight into the filmmaking process, from initial concept through to final production.

The experience has provided excellent preparation for their upcoming GCSE Film Studies Component 3 coursework, equipping them with both the confidence and practical knowledge needed to succeed.

Sarah Owens, Head of Expressive & Performing Arts at Heworth Grange School, said:
"This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience filmmaking in a professional environment. Being able to access industry-standard equipment and work through the full creative process has been invaluable in preparing them for their GCSE coursework. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork throughout the day."

    She added:
"Performing arts and media play a vital role in our school community. We are proud of our thriving youth theatre, which delivers multiple sold-out performances each year, and we are committed to providing our students with a wide range of opportunities to develop their talents. Experiences like this, alongside working with other educational establishments, help to broaden horizons and inspire future ambitions."

The trip forms part of Heworth Grange School’s ongoing commitment to enriching learning beyond the classroom, ensuring students are equipped with the skills, experiences and inspiration to succeed in creative industries and beyond.
