Wyvern Academy applauds local student’s sporting achievement at European Championships
Elliot and the England team jetted off to Napflio in Greece for the European Championships, which were held over the course of four days, from the 20th to the 23rd of April. Competition was intense with over 150 athletes from seventeen countries competing, but Elliot’s latest gold medal winning performance now makes him the two-time Gold European Youth Kettlebell Athlete.
Elliot started doing Kettlebell Training at Tu Nova Gym in Darlington as part of a Kettlebell Kids group six weeks before Covid struck in 2019. When the Gym was forced to temporarily close because of Covid restrictions, the coaches continued to train the aspiring athletes via video lessons to keep them focussed and active.
Thanks to his training and ability, Elliot took part in a few local competitions, including the England qualifiers, where he gained a place on the England Youth Team, lifting 2 x 16kg Kettlebells for 10 minutes. He went on to represent England in the under 16s competition in Poland in 2022 and again brought home the gold medal.
Elliot trains three times a week and is now taking a Sports Studies course. The Gold medal winning athlete remains determined to requalify for the European Championships next year.
