Moorside High School Celebrates a Month of Money, Mental Health and Community Giving

Students at Moorside High School have been taking part in a range of activities throughout September, focusing on financial awareness, positive mental health and supporting the local community.

As part of National Payroll Week and Know Your Numbers Week, students took part in a ‘Money Matters’ stall, exploring salaries, payslips and common deductions. They had the opportunity to read payslips, guess salaries for different careers and test their knowledge through a payroll myth-or-fact challenge, helping to develop valuable financial awareness and life skills.

The school also marked Youth Mental Health Day with activities designed to promote positive wellbeing and encourage students to talk about their feelings and seek support when needed. Students contributed to ‘Take One, Give One’ messages, a Worry Wall and a ‘What Helps Me?’ Wall, while also learning about the support available to them both in school and through external services.

The month ended with a successful Macmillan Cake Sale, with staff and students across all four Houses generously donating cakes and getting involved in fundraising activities. Students competed to see which House could raise the most money and contribute the most cakes, with plenty of creativity on display.

The activities were supported by staff, students and the Student Leadership Team, who played an important role in running the stalls and helping to engage their peers.

The final amount raised for Macmillan Cancer Support will be shared on the school’s social media once the money has been counted.
