Moorside High School Rockets into Science Week Fun and Raises Funds for Cancer Research UKItem Title

Moorside High School, has just wrapped up an exciting Science Week, with students engaging in a host of hands-on and creative activities both in and out of the classroom.

Throughout the week, students explored captivating scientific topics, from the mysteries of space to the pressing issue of debris in orbit. They designed innovative solutions such as space debris collectors and ocean cleanup devices, and even crafted their own STEM-inspired stories, blending imagination with scientific exploration.

Each day also featured a House Challenge, encouraging teamwork and friendly competition as students earned points for their houses. STEM Club hosted a special session where pupils enjoyed experiments like rainbow fizz reactions and flame tests, observing the brilliant colours produced by different elements.

To cap off the week, Moorside students held a cake sale to support Cancer Research UK, raising an impressive £65.95. One outstanding student from the in-class activities will also be rewarded with a telescope, recognising their creativity and scientific thinking.

Nancy Turnbull, Teacher of Science, said:
"I am really proud of our students for going above and beyond and trying their best to take part in all the challenges. Their creativity, curiosity, and teamwork have made this week truly special."

“Science Week has been a fantastic celebration of curiosity, teamwork, and innovation,” added a spokesperson for Moorside High School. “We are thrilled by our students’ enthusiasm and creativity, and we look forward to announcing the winning house very soon!”
