Lucas Johnson, a student at Armthorpe Academy, part of Consilium Academies, has achieved outstanding success on the international stage after competing in the GB International Ice Swimming Championships.
Lucas competed in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke, where he emerged as a gold medallist. His exceptional performances placed him second in the world based on his recorded times, marking an incredible achievement in this demanding and highly competitive sport.
International ice swimming is known for its extreme physical and mental challenges, making Lucas’s success a testament to his determination. His achievements over the weekend were celebrated by staff, students, and the wider school community, with photographs from the event shared by his family.
Mrs Amy Moulton, Director of Pastoral Care at Armthorpe Academy, said:
“Lucas is not only an exceptional swimmer; he is a polite, conscientious, and hardworking student. He is a remarkable young man who is a role model to his peers. He completely deserves this success due to the resilience and perseverance he shows in everything he puts his mind to. Everyone at Armthorpe Academy is exceptionally proud of him.”

Following his success, Lucas has been invited to compete at the Rothervalley Ice Swimming Championships in January 2026, one of the sport’s most challenging events. He has also been selected to represent Team GB at the European Ice Swimming Championships, which will take place in Molveno, Italy, in February 2026.
Lucas’s achievements highlight not only his sporting talent but also the dedication, discipline, and character he demonstrates both in and out of school. Armthorpe Academy and Consilium Academies are immensely proud of his accomplishments and look forward to supporting him as he continues to excel on the international stage.
