Washington Academy hosts Anti Bullying Conference

Students ‘Make a Noise about Bullying’ this Anti Bullying Week

Washington Academy, was pleased to host Sunderland Local Authority’s Anti-Bullying Conference on Wednesday the 15th of November.

The conference coincided with Anti Bullying Week which runs from Monday the 13th to Friday the 17th of November.  Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is coordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance and this year’s theme is 'Make A Noise About Bullying.'  The week kicked off with Odd Socks Day, when adults and children wear odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique!

Schools from across the local authority attended the conference with different sessions being held for primary and secondary schools.  A Washington student gave a talk in one of the sessions and the school’s student leadership team and council members were also there to represent the academy.

Victoria Carter, Headteacher at Washington Academy said:

“It was great to host Sunderland’s Anti Bullying Conference this week.  Making sure children feel safe and happy in school is a top priority and bullying should always be dealt with firmly and effectively.  I am so proud that a Washington student was able to address the conference and grateful to the local authority for giving us the opportunity to host this fantastic event.”
